The National Shooting Centre offers an unrivalled opportunity to take part in a sport which is competitive, exciting, bonding and above all, fun.
Your safety is paramount and we want you to really enjoy your shooting experience with us at Bisley.
A specific safety briefing will be given by an NRA instructor prior to shooting each discipline which will include:
- Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded until it has been proved otherwise
- Never, ever, point a firearm at anyone
- Always ensure the barrel of the firearm is pointed in a safe direction (usually towards the stop butt, which is the bank of sand behind the targets)
- Never close or open the bolt of any firearm you are handling unless the barrel is horizontal and pointing towards the stop butt
- The instructor will handle the ammunition and will load the firearm which you are about to fire
- Do not place your finger on the trigger until you are in the aim position and about to fire
If you hear anyone shout “Stop, Stop, Stop” you must immediately take your finger off the trigger, remain in the aim position and await further instructions from the instructor.
General rules
You will be escorted to each shooting discipline by a guide whose instructions you must adhere to.
You must strictly comply with all shooting instruction which is given on a one-to-one basis by an NRA instructor.
For your safety and comfort, ear plugs must be worn at all times whilst on the shooting ranges, and ear defenders must be worn whilst shooting.
Please ensure your mobile is either turned off, or turned to ‘silent’, and if you do need to use your phone, please check with your instructor or guide that it is safe to do so prior to making or receiving a call.
Due to the nature of the activity, the ground in some place is uneven. Visitors should wear suitable sturdy footwear eg trainers, walking boots or Wellington boots. Visitors should also be vigilant as there are a number of ground level signs on the ranges eg firing point pegs and distance marker signs.
Please keep to the main roads at all times. NEVER move onto the ranges until told to do so.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility – if you have any concerns, please tell your instructor or guide immediately.
Please note:
Prior to handling any firearms, you must sign the ‘Section 21 Declaration’ which states that you:
- Have not been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of more than three months
- Have never had an application for a firearm or shotgun refused, or had a certificate withdrawn by the Authorities for any reason
- Will wear ear protection at all times in the vicinity of firing points
